Following a two-year closure, Richard Branson’s Necker Island is officially back and better than ever.
After Hurricane Irma devastated the island in 2017, Necker required significant rebuilding. Moreover, while the pandemic sealed the borders of the British Virgin Islands, Branson’s team diligently focused on restorations and final touches.
Now, with the reopening of the BVI in December 2020, a revitalized Necker Island is ready to welcome guests with new ultra-luxurious accommodation options.
This Gorgeous Tree House With an Ocean View Is Hawaii’s Most Wish-Listed Airbnb
The brand-new Bali Hi complex features an extended pool and outdoor lounges, as well as private pools in the individual Bali villas, perfect for indulging in unlimited pool time while enjoying complete privacy. The Great House, perched atop the island’s highest point, offers breathtaking views of both the Caribbean and Atlantic Oceans and neighboring islands, and has received two additional guest rooms.
Beyond the upgraded accommodations for guests, Necker Island has made substantial changes for environmental sustainability. The island now features more than 1,200 solar panels and three new wind turbines, resulting in the destination running on 90 percent renewable energy.
Visitors to the 74-acre Necker Island typically enjoy an atmosphere of exclusivity by booking the entire island for a private vacation experience, which accommodates only 22 guests. However, during select weeks of the year known as Celebration Weeks, there is an opportunity to reserve individual rooms for couples, individuals, or families. While sharing the island during these seven-night periods, overall capacity remains minimal.
Your primary on-island companions during your stay will be the island’s tropical wildlife. Guests can expect to spot tortoises, flamingos, iguanas, scarlet and white ibises, and various endangered species of Madagascan lemurs, which Branson is dedicated to protecting.
Necker Island is now welcoming guests again; however, access is dependent on travel arrangements. The most popular ways to arrive are via private jet, yacht, or helicopter. Additionally, flights to nearby Tortola (Beef Island) are available, with 35-minute launch transfers to and from Necker included in the rate.
