New Boutique Hotel in Catskills: Upscale Summer Camp Vibes Await

1. Introduction

One of the Catskills’ favorite historic getaways is receiving a modern-day upgrade.

2. Renovation of Thompson House Resort

The Thompson House Resort, established in 1880, was acquired last summer by adventure hospitality brand Wylder Hotels, known for its properties in Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay and California’s High Sierras. This summer, following significant renovations, the resort will debut as Wylder Windham.

The brand aims to maintain all the charms of the resort, which has been family-owned and operated for over 140 years, while implementing a complete renovation. This transformation is spearheaded by design firm Post Company, local architect Jason Anderson, and craftsmen from Baxter Built.

3. Upcoming Features

As part of its first phase, select guest rooms, the lobby, and the lounge are set to open in June. Additionally, the long-time favorite Babblers restaurant will also reopen in June, renowned for its delicious comfort food, alongside Babblers Bakery, famous for its strawberry rhubarb pie and homemade croissants. The final transformation of the resort will conclude in August, introducing new suites, rooms, cottages, and event spaces.

4. Unique Accommodations

Perhaps the most unique feature of Wylder Windham is its 110 guest rooms and suites, housed in seven picturesque Victorian buildings including The Pines Inn, The Tamarack Lodge, and The Farmhouse. These accommodations boast oak floors and custom furniture, with 82 rooms offering balconies that provide stunning views of the surrounding mountains and river. Room rates vary by season, starting at $340 per night, with an additional fee for canine companions at this pet-friendly property.

5. Location and Activities

Located a 2.5-hour drive north of New York City, Wylder Windham occupies 20 acres of stunning Catskills land along the Batavia Kill River. The outdoor activities available make this resort a prime destination year-round. Visitors can explore electric biking, hammocks, tubing, tree swings, lawn games, and unwind around the fire pit or within the wood-fire sauna, hot tub, or in-ground heated pool, complete with a pool bar.

6. Transportation and Accessibility

The resort will provide convenient transportation in a restored vintage Land Rover Defender 110 Shuttle to nearby attractions such as Windham Mountain for skiing, Windham Country Club for a round of golf, and the charming downtown Windham, featuring a historic Main Street lined with boutiques and restaurants.
