Las Vegas’ New Slogan: What Happens Here, Only Happens Here
Las Vegas’ new slogan is slightly different, yet the sentiment remains true to the city.
Since 2003, Las Vegas tourism has utilized one of the world’s most successful marketing campaigns: “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” However, in a bid to move away from the “let loose” nature of this famous slogan, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority introduced a new tagline with celebrity support.
The Launch of the New Slogan
The new slogan premiered in a commercial during the Grammys on Sunday evening. A slew of celebrities, including Shania Twain and Christina Aguilera—who currently have residences in Las Vegas—appeared in the campaign video. Moreover, during the performance, Steven Tyler and the rest of Aerosmith had their audience participate in a call-and-response with the new slogan.
Reflection of Las Vegas’ Identity
“What happens here, only happens here” is intended to capture the city’s growing reputation as a sports and entertainment epicenter, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
“We think it’ll have both literal and emotional resonance similar to ‘What happens here, stays here,’” said Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority CEO Steve Hill. “We don’t want our brand promise to be aspirational. We want it to be real and authentic. We want people to think, ‘Yep, that is exactly how we feel about that,’ and we believe this captures that.”
