Top Hotels in Tokyo: Luxury Accommodations for Every Traveler
As the world’s largest metropolis, Tokyo boasts hotel options that are fittingly extraordinary and seemingly limitless. The competition to remain at the top is fierce; therefore, it’s a boon to visitors — the best properties here are marked by cutting-edge architecture, world-class restaurants, and service that’s hard to match. This year, our readers showed a preference for hotels that combine traditional Japanese details with the distinctive sense of modernity that Tokyo does so well.
Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, readers share their opinions on travel experiences around the globe — including the top hotels and resorts. Hotels were rated on their facilities, location, service, food, and overall value. Properties were classified as city or resort based on their locations and amenities.
Readers with a taste for history loved the Palace Hotel Tokyo (No. 3), with its vista of the Imperial Palace and gardens. As one guest remarked, “My husband and I had a room on the top floor and spent a great deal of time on our balcony, taking in the breathtaking view of the city.” Service was also a major selling point: “The team is exceedingly gracious and helpful,” noted another reader.
A few blocks away, Aman Tokyo (No. 5) occupies the top six floors of the hypermodern, 38-floor Otemachi Tower. On top of the serene, minimalist interior design for which Aman is known, the restaurants are a big draw. Among the four dining options: Arva, a new Italian spot that’s garnering rave reviews, and Musashi, a tiny, eight-seat omakase restaurant that serves supremely fresh sushi. Over in the Nihonbashi neighborhood, Mandarin Oriental (No. 7) impresses with huge standard rooms (the smallest clocking in at 538 square feet) that would probably be considered suites anywhere else.
