Experience Nostalgia with Hudson River Rail Excursions
Hudson River Rail Excursions Overview
Hudson River Rail Excursions’ rides from New York City to Albany, featuring glamorous 1940s vintage rail cars, will return in June. If you want to take part in this iconic train trip along the breathtaking Hudson River, it’s essential to act swiftly since last year’s inaugural tickets sold out in less than two minutes.
Available Services and Amenities
The Hudson River Rail Excursions will feature rides in the Hickory Creek sleeper-lounge car aboard New York Central’s 20th Century Limited train, famously known as “The Most Famous Train in the World.” Train travelers can secure a seat in the Hickory Creek car for a round-trip journey from NYC to Albany on 21 dates in June. Passengers will traverse the same scenic route enjoyed by riders in the 1940s and 1950s, taking a delightful round-trip day excursion between New York City’s Moynihan Train Hall and Albany-Rensselaer Station.
The higher class of service will be in the Hickory Creek car, with tickets starting at $349. This option includes a full-service meal prepared by the onboard chef, along with refreshments such as beer, wine, and snacks available throughout the journey. Alternatively, the Tavern-Lounge No. 43 car offers tickets starting at $149 and serves catered sandwiches with sides, with drinks provided at each seat. Passengers are also encouraged to bring their own beer and wine aboard and will have access to Amtrak’s Metropolitan Lounge’s first-class amenities before the journey.
Journey Schedule
This luxurious day trip will depart from Manhattan at 11:20 a.m. and will reach Albany by 1:50 p.m. Passengers can explore Albany before reboarding at 4:30 p.m. for the return journey to the city, which will arrive at 7:05 p.m.
About the Organizing Body
The enriching experience of Hudson River Rail Excursions is brought to you by the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving local railroad equipment, including locomotives and railroad cars. The society has been the proud owner of both the Hickory Creek and Tavern-Lounge cars since their acquisition in 1991.
Ticket Demand Insights
These nostalgic train trips initially commenced last year with just four scheduled departures in October, which sold out in a mere two minutes. Due to the overwhelming interest, eight additional trips were added, all of which also sold out quickly.
URHS president Kevin Phalon expressed excitement over the demand, stating, “The demand for these trips last year was far and beyond what we could have hoped for. It was humbling to find that so many are so passionate about history and about our old railroad cars. We are looking forward to another sell-out year.”
Tickets will be available for purchase on Friday, April 22, at 10 a.m. for 2022 departures. The schedule includes trips operating every Friday through Sunday in June, as well as departures on three fall weekends: September 30 to October 2, October 7 to 9, and October 28 to 30.
