The No. 1 winner this year, for the first time in our awards’ 22-year history, is San Miguel de Allende, a colonial gem with a vibrant yet cost-effective atmosphere. “San Miguel is one of the most authentic, creative destinations we’ve visited,” noted a reader. Its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage site highlights its cultural significance. Notably, the town maintains its Mexican heritage and traditional charm, even as it embraces modernity.

This year’s list reflects a growing interest in Asian destinations, with seven of the top 15 cities located in the region.
