Experience Luxurious Stargazing in a Cozy Joshua Tree Airbnb

Experience the Off-Grid Stargazing Cabin

The air fell crisp as the sun went down behind the hills in Joshua Tree, California. There was no noise, save for a few howling coyotes off in the distance. It was time to tuck into bed in my Airbnb. However, at this home, I was tucking in under a breathtaking blanket of stars.

The Folly Collection home, known as the Off-grid Stargazing Cabin, is located just a short drive outside the renowned Joshua Tree National Park. It consists of two small off-grid buildings, each powered by solar energy, ensuring minimal impact on the natural surroundings. One building features a living and dining room, a small kitchen, a lofted bedroom, and a shower with a picture window overlooking the desert landscape. The second building boasts a queen bed perched on its rooftop allowing guests to sleep surrounded by nature’s beauty.

Unique Architectural Design

“Malek Alqadi, the architect, drew inspiration from the distinctive landscape of Joshua Tree, utilizing architecture to harmonize with the existing environment,” explained Hillary Flur, co-founder of The Folly Collection. “Our vision for the original 1950s homestead was to create an indoor-outdoor experience that emphasizes nature’s presence. We decided against decorative art, opting instead for a rustic feel. Large windows throughout the cabin enhance the immersion in nature, and the stargazing deck offers an extraordinary view of the night sky.” Consequently, the home features a spacious patio with comfortable loungers, a fire pit for cozy nights, and a bocce court, all showcasing sweeping desert vistas.

“Folly is perfect for individuals seeking to disconnect from their hectic urban lifestyles,” Flur added. “It serves as a sustainable travel option within a thoughtfully designed space.”

Best Time to Visit Joshua Tree

When it comes to the ideal time to visit, Flur noted that the property is suitable for all seasons. “Although the area experiences low light pollution, allowing for year-round stargazing, spring provides the most comfortable nighttime temperatures,” she stated. “Joshua Tree can be quite hot during summer, yet the Milky Way is visible, and the annual Perseid meteor shower in mid-August is an event that should not be missed. For chilly winter nights, we provide heated mattress pads.”

The Folly Collection represents “a truly unique experience where every detail, from environmentally friendly materials to organic vegan-friendly products, is designed to blend modern living with a deep appreciation for nature.”

Every aspect of the home is designed to inspire self-reflection and provide an escape from the ordinary. “During these unprecedented times, we have come to understand the impact of disconnecting and spending quality time in nature while remaining safe and secluded from crowds,” Flur expressed.
