Summary
The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon Overview
The Standard is continuing to redefine boutique hotels as it expands worldwide. The latest addition is its Asia flagship located in Thailand’s capital, which opened to the public on July 29. This property, known as The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon, showcases 155 rooms and suites spread across one of downtown Bangkok’s tallest buildings, the King Power Mahanakhon. Moreover, it features six bars and restaurants.
Design and Artistic Elements
As with each of The Standard’s properties, the look is everything. Spanish artist and designer Jaime Hayon, along with The Standard’s design team led by chief design officer Verena Haller, has crafted a unique aesthetic. The design embodies Bangkok’s rich culture and artistic spirit, adorned with locally handmade rattan lamps and antiques, evoking a vibrant flea market atmosphere.
One prominent artwork on display is Marco Brambilla’s “Heaven’s Gate,” described as a “video monument to Hollywood dreams and excess.” Additional pieces in the lobby include works by Marc Quinn and Joan Miro, contributing to the striking ambiance of the hotel.
Rooms and Amenities
The hotel’s accommodations range from about 430 square feet to a 1,550-square-foot Bigger Penthouse, featuring a full kitchen equipped with Gaggenau appliances, a spacious soaking tub, and breathtaking city views. Accordingly, guests have access to top-tier amenities, including a terrace pool and a 24-hour fitness center, both of which boast stunning views of Bangkok.
Culinary Experiences
The Standard, Bangkok offers a diverse selection of dining options. Guests can enjoy an American brasserie known as The Standard Grill, a Mexican-influenced restaurant called Ojo, and the Chinese restaurant Mott 32. Additionally, a tea room named Tease adds to the culinary variety. The highlight is the breathtaking Sky Beach, located on the 78th floor, which provides 360-degree views from what is now the city’s highest rooftop bar. The Parlor stands out as well, serving comfort Thai food and fostering community through various cultural programming events.
The Standard’s Global Growth
This Asian flagship hotel represents a significant milestone for The Standard’s expansion in the Asia-Pacific region, with additional locations planned for Singapore and Melbourne. There are also future properties expected in the U.S. and Europe, solidifying The Standard’s commitment to growth and innovation. Notably, this hotel joins another establishment in Thailand, The Standard, Hua Hin, which has already gained recognition in iBestTravel’s 2022 World’s Best Awards for best resort in Southeast Asia.
