Vienna stands as one of Europe’s most refined cities, boasting exceptional museums, exquisite restaurants, and luxurious hotels that reflect its historical gravitas. The newly opened Rosewood Vienna is a testament to the Austrian capital’s status as one of the most luxurious cities in the world.
Location and Historical Significance
Following its expansion into markets like London, Tuscany, Madrid, and Paris, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts now arrives in the German-speaking market with the establishment of Rosewood Vienna. Nestled in the heart of this ancient city, on Petersplatz, the hotel is in proximity to renowned cultural landmarks, including the gothic St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Kunsthistorisches Museum, and the Hofburg Imperial Palace complex. Furthermore, it is surrounded by high-end shops and exceptional dining establishments. The property itself consists of historic buildings, featuring a former bank within a 19th-century neoclassical structure and the very apartment where Mozart resided and composed his opera “The Abduction from the Seraglio.”
Luxury Accommodations and Design
The hotel features 71 spacious guestrooms and 28 suites, designed to reflect Vienna’s glamour and artistic heritage. Contemporary artworks adorn the walls, elegantly complemented by custom furniture and textiles from esteemed local artisans like Backhausen and Bakalowits. The aesthetic is further enhanced by a timeless neutral color palette, paired with chic design elements such as brass sconces shaped like the beloved Austrian flower, edelweiss, creating distinctly Viennese interiors.
Alexander Lahmer, managing director at Rosewood Vienna, highlighted, “As the first luxury hotel entering this market in close to a decade, we’ve been careful to ensure that the property honors the city’s traditions of fine craft and innovative design alongside contemporary style.” He emphasized the importance of creating a unique experience that showcases the character of Vienna through thoughtfully curated public spaces, guest room decor, and service styles in the dining venues.
Diverse Culinary Offerings
The interiors were designed by Vienna-based A2K Architects and BEHF Architects, with the rooms and suites conceptualized by Alexander Waterworth Design Studio. The Viennese design firm Kroenland is behind the Neue Hoheit, which includes multiple dining spaces, a terrace, and a rooftop cocktail bar.
“Alexander Waterworth’s approach in crafting the interiors aimed to create a luxury residential ambiance — a design goal permeating Rosewood’s portfolio — with a modern interpretation of Viennese culture and history intertwined,” Lahmer noted.
The hotel’s centerpiece is The Hoffman House, its remarkable presidential suite named after influential Austrian architect Josef Hoffmann. Spanning 1,916 square feet on the third floor, it features a separate entrance, a master bedroom, a living room, an entertainment area, a dining room accommodating eight, a gourmet kitchen, and a balcony with views of Petersplatz. A stunning chandelier commissioned by J.L. Lobmeyr and a captivating “cabinet of curiosities” cluttered with objets d’art truly highlight the living space.
Neue Hoheit, the hotel’s restaurant located on the sixth floor, offers diners traditional European and Austrian dishes including wiener schnitzel with potato salad, goulash with butter dumplings, and apple strudel while providing breathtaking views of Vienna’s Old Town, St. Peter’s Church, and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. The rooftop bar, inspired by classic speakeasies, boasts an innovative cocktail menu for a delightful evening experience.
“Our signature cocktail menu represents a journey through the nine Federal States of Austria, featuring regional spirits and ingredients,” expressed Lahmer. The hotel’s plush lobby features the sophisticated Salon Aurelie, presenting a contemporary Viennese coffee house atmosphere complete with light snacks such as finger sandwiches, pastries, cakes, tea, and aperitifs.
Guests at Rosewood Vienna can indulge in rejuvenating spa treatments at Asaya Spa, which is the first Rosewood spa established outside of Asia. The spa features a lounge, relaxation area, sauna, steam bath, and experience shower, ensuring a holistic wellness experience for all visitors.
