Borgo Santandrea — recognized as one of the best new hotels of 2022 on the iBestTravel It List — is exquisitely located in one of the world’s most adored travel destinations. Upon my visit in early June, I was captivated by the breathtaking view of the sea from nearly 300 feet above, with deep sapphire waters dotted with boats and sun seekers relishing a perfect Sunday afternoon. Accompanied by two friends, all of us exploring the Amalfi Coast for the first time, we could not believe our luck at starting our journey here.
The Luxury of the Premium Pool Suite
As we made our way to our room, we admired the attractive seating nooks adorned with stylish mid-century furniture and rich fabrics. Each window, whether gracefully arched or circular, framed stunning vistas of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Upon reaching our Premium Pool Suite, we found ourselves in a serene space featuring a private infinity pool with breathtaking sea views, lush gardens, a cabana, and an expansive marble bathroom. The striking blue and white tiled floor, one of 31 different geometric patterns throughout the hotel, echoed the colors of the sky and sea.
Culinary Delights at Borgo Santandrea
After reveling in our luxurious suite, we ventured to the Beach Club. With a private beach adorned with comfortable lounge chairs, we opted for the scenic lift descending to the shore. Along the way, we came across a cocktail bar nestled beneath a natural stone arch, adjacent to a cave-like bar featuring a pizza oven. Consequently, we couldn’t resist Marco’s delicious margherita pizza paired with a refreshing glass of prosecco.
Dinner that evening was a remarkable experience at La Libreria, an elegant restaurant situated amid a fascinating library atmosphere. Chef Crescenzo Scotti and his team amazed us with an exquisite multi-course meal, complemented by perfect wine pairings and three delectable desserts. We cherished the ambiant lighting; it permitted us to fully appreciate the intricate details of each dish.
The following morning’s breakfast was equally memorable. Guests could roam in a gleaming stainless steel kitchen while choosing from an array of fresh fruits, cheeses, meats, and pastries, welcoming chefs on hand to create personalized dishes. Lunch at Alici, overlooking the captivating sea, offered us a chance to savor authentic regional fare, while the Beach Club featured an extensive selection of salads, pastas, and seafood.
Wellness and Activities Offered
The newly developed wellness area showcases a sauna, an “emotional shower” with various jets and scents, an outdoor treatment terrace, and a state-of-the-art gym. Exploring the hotel’s art, books, ceramics, and sculptures from the owners’ personal collections was another enjoyable way to spend our time. The concierge provided opportunities for activities such as private guided boat tours, hiking excursions, artisan tours, cooking classes, and wine tastings.
Final Thoughts on the Amalfi Coast Experience
In conclusion, the temptation to remain ensconced in our blissful private pool, cabana, gardens, and beach proved irresistible. Consequently, we decided to save our exploration of the enchanting towns of the Amalfi Coast for our next visit. We cherished the mesmerizing view of the sea transforming from deep blue to turquoise and emerald as it met the shore, all while enjoying chilled prosecco under the warm sun, accompanied by a gentle, refreshing breeze.
