1. Introduction
A new hospitality brand, Field Station, is set to launch its first hotel in early 2023 in Moab, Utah. Following this, plans are in place to open two additional California locations in Joshua Tree and Lake Tahoe through renovations of existing motels.
2. Innovative Design Concept
Field Station will feature an innovative design that merges Scandinavian and industrial motifs into a style known as “scandustrial”. This design approach provides an uncluttered atmosphere conducive to storing outdoor equipment such as bikes, bags, and boards.
3. Founder’s Vision and Experience
The company is the brainchild of Neil Dipaola, who founded AutoCamp Hospitality Group in 2013, successfully sparking the glamping trend across the United States. AutoCamp currently operates five properties across notable destinations like Cape Cod, the Catskill Mountains, and Yosemite, with plans for four more openings in 2023.
4. Commitment to Outdoor Experiences
Dipaola expresses a passion for the outdoors: “Our team has always been wildly passionate about getting people outdoors together and helping inspire a love for the environment.” Field Station aims to provide affordable outdoor experiences while promoting environmental appreciation.
5. Affordable Rates and Amenities
With off-peak rates starting as low as $159 per night, Field Station will offer guests top-quality outdoor gear from brands like Black Diamond and Dometic Outdoor. Each location will also feature on-site rental shops, an espresso bar, a beer garden, and areas designated for RVs, complete with hookup amenities.
6. Unique Accommodations
Catering to both seasoned adventurers and novices, the Moab property will include a swimming pool and several rooms equipped with Portaledges, offering a unique opportunity for rock climbers to experience outdoor sleeping arrangements.
7. Community Engagement and Education
Field Station is dedicated to fostering connections between locals and visitors through community-driven programming. Planned activities will include survival skills training, classes on Indigenous history, backcountry workshops, and sustainable stewardship principles, such as Leave No Trace.
8. Future Expansion and Mission
Despite starting with a limited number of properties, Dipaola’s vision encompasses broader future expansions, aiming to empower more individuals to experience the beauty of the outdoors. He emphasizes a commitment to enhancing comfort, ease, knowledge, and support for all visitors.
