Navigating Sonoma County just got easier. The California county, which stretches for 1,768 miles over rolling hills and vast vineyards, has no limit on things to see and do. However, to streamline a visitor’s experience, there’s an app that will facilitate trip planning.

“We created the Sonoma County App to be as useful and informative for locals as it is to first-time or regular visitors,” shared Todd O’Leary, the vice president of marketing and communications at Sonoma County Tourism. “Our destination has an endless number of unique businesses and activities to discover, so we’ve developed this App as the go-to resource for everyone.”

Features of the App

According to Sonoma County Tourism, the app highlights the coolest experiences across the county and allows users to research and plan a personalized trip. Moreover, visitors can access interactive maps, photos, and rich descriptions of all options surrounding them in real-time. The app even permits users to filter through various activity categories, such as:

• Wine Tasting
• Spas
• Dining
• Shopping

Additionally, users can select from several location categories like outdoor experiences and events.

Responding to Consumer Demand

The app, launched in November, is a direct response to consumer demand. A recent survey indicated that visitors seek richer narrative-based travel experiences. Notably, 65 percent stated they prefer travel that tells a story and creates lasting memories. Furthermore, 73 percent of survey respondents expressed they want assistance coordinating their visit, indicating uncertainty about what activities to book during their trip. Consequently, the Sonoma County App smartly addresses these issues.

Social Sharing and Gamification

The best part? The app allows users to share all their plans with friends, enabling everyone in a travel party to weigh in on options. Additionally, the app incorporates gamification elements, allowing users to work toward “goals” and unlock status badges and rewards along the way.

“Sonoma County App users can play along with friends and family to see who is a Sonoma County Travel Pro, along with chances to win some cool experiences and rewards,” said Frank Filice, Sonoma County Tourism’s director of brand marketing.
