It is often said that cruise ships can feel like floating resorts. Now, Windstar Cruises has elevated this concept by bringing the aesthetic and ambiance of two renowned resorts to one of its newly refreshed ships.

The 312-passenger Star Legend, which will sail the Caribbean Sea in the coming months before heading to Portugal in April, now boasts two distinctively designed Classic Suites. One suite draws inspiration from The Broadmoor, and the other from Sea Island resort. The Broadmoor is recognized as one of Colorado’s top resorts, while Georgia’s Sea Island consistently ranks among the best resort destinations in the South. This collaboration is encouraged by shared ownership, as explained by Windstar president Christopher Prelog.

According to Prelog, “This is the first time we’ve partnered with a resort for hotel operations on board our fleet; however, both The Broadmoor and Sea Island are sister companies to Windstar and are both historic, five-diamond resorts. This is an exciting way to connect our brands and generate interest in visiting a sister property.”

While neither suite is a direct replica of any particular room at the land-based resorts, the accommodations on Star Legend reflect the design ethos of the sibling properties. The suite inspired by The Broadmoor features “classic furniture, floral motifs, white trim with gold finishes, and wide crown molding,” Prelog notes, complemented by “statement” wallpaper reminiscent of The Broadmoor’s main building. Conversely, the Sea Island suite is “coastal and airy, characterized by colors like sea-glass green.” Both suites are situated on Deck 5, each boasting a private veranda that overlooks the ship’s bow.

The newly designed suites represent just one of the many enhancements made to Star Legend, which recently underwent a multimillion-dollar overhaul. This upgrade included the addition of two dining venues, an improved spa, and other luxurious touches throughout the ship. An exciting new feature is a mural titled “First Light,” painted by Miami artist Alex Núñez during a recent transatlantic crossing from Lisbon to South Florida.

Plans are underway for similar Broadmoor and Sea Island suites to be added to Windstar’s Star Breeze this spring, followed by Star Pride in 2024. “The Star Legend suites have only been available since December 17, and our first guests are providing enthusiastic feedback,” Prelog observes. “Unlike hotel brands that have begun offering yacht-style cruises, this initiative exemplifies a unique approach to merging land-based luxury with a maritime experience.”
