1. Transatlantic Journey
Over the last decade, I have had the privilege of flying to the United Kingdom and continental Europe numerous times. With itineraries spanning from 48 hours to four months, I discovered my favorite travel experience in the fall of 2022 while visiting London and Paris, making future trips feel less appealing.
My journey commenced at Newark Liberty International Airport, where I managed to work in the British Airways lounge before a seven-hour flight to Heathrow. Having typically opted for budget airlines before, this time I experienced the rejuvenated British Airways Club World cabin. Upon reaching my seat, the level of comfort and features thrilled me as I began my exploration of the cabin.
2. Shangri-La The Shard
Shangri-La The Shard is prominently located within the remarkable 72-story skyscraper just south of the River Thames. Occupying floors 34 to 52, it boasts breathtaking views that are the essence of this five-star hotel. Despite the sometimes-drizzly London weather, the floor-to-ceiling windows allow guests to behold the stunning skyline and vibrant city below.
The hotel offers more than just captivating views. Guests indulge in sky-high afternoon tea at TĪNG, enjoy specialty cocktails at GŎNG bar, and swim in the Infinity Sky Pool with vistas of Tower Bridge and St. Paul’s Cathedral. This environment combines a distinctly London experience with the luxurious Shangri-La signature service.
3. Arrival in Paris
After checking out of The Shard, I crossed the English Channel to Paris. Reflecting on a past budget travel experience, I appreciated my current luxurious method of transit: the Eurostar. Arriving in just a couple of hours in the City of Lights heightened my anticipation for two nights at Shangri-La Paris.
4. Shangri-La Paris
Shangri-La Paris epitomizes luxury, blending French and Asian styles while housing historical significance as the former residence of Prince Roland Bonaparte, a relative of Napoleon I. This remarkable establishment features high ceilings and beautifully decorated interiors, creating a warm yet grand atmosphere.
Each of the 100 rooms and suites offers stunning views of either Avenue d’Iéna or the Eiffel Tower. For an extra special experience, some rooms come with private terraces, perfect for enjoying the morning sun. Indulging in a treatment at CHI, The Spa or dining at either Michelin-starred Shang Palace or La Bauhinia beneath a glass dome ceiling crafted by renowned architect Maurice Gras is highly recommended for a truly memorable stay.
5. Conclusion
After spending several hours exploring and shopping in Paris, followed by a rejuvenating massage and exquisite multi-course dinner, I truly felt relaxed and satisfied. This indulgent journey through London and Paris exemplifies the pinnacle of luxury travel, offering an unparalleled experience that encompasses comfort, breathtaking sights, and exceptional dining.
