Discover a New 320-Acre Desert Camp Next to North America’s Tallest Sand Dunes and Hidden National Park Opening This June

Dunes Desert Camp Overview

Welcome to Dunes Desert Camp, a place you won’t want to leave. The camp is set to open in June, offering visitors a chance to rent 320 privately owned acres near the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado for various gatherings like family reunions and yoga retreats.

Location and Landscape

The desolate and wide-open landscape of Colorado’s San Luis Valley remains pristine and untouched, home to one of the state’s four national parks. The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve features the tallest sand dunes in North America, created by the unique interplay of wind currents that formed towering mounds of sand on the desert floor.

Accommodations and Customization

At Dunes Desert Camp, privacy is a cornerstone. The property offers two luxury safari tents equipped with four-poster beds and desert-themed decor, alongside facilities for cooking and outdoor showers. Furthermore, larger groups can bring their own camping tents or park RVs on the property. Stays are fully customizable, allowing groups to prepare their own meals or collaborate with the camp team for catering services.

According to camp manager Chris Mahoney, “Really it’s all fully customized depending on what the client wants—from BYO to a full-board, full-serviced guided affair.”

Activities Offered

The team at Dunes Desert Camp provides a range of excursions through Dunes Experiences. Guests can explore the stunning desert landscape on horseback, take thrilling rides on dune buggies, or enjoy breathtaking aerial views of the national park in a private airplane or hot air balloon. The camp’s staff, comprising former safari and big-mountain guides, leverage their expertise and collaborate with vetted local guides for these adventures.

Stargazing and Dark Sky Park

As night falls, the Dunes Desert Camp location offers some of the best stargazing experiences in Colorado. The camp is situated in the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, which has been recognized as a dark-sky park by the International Dark-Sky Association, affirming the area’s exceptionally clear night skies due to its remote setting.

For those interested in experiencing the Dunes Desert Camp, reservations for stays starting in June are available. The standard operating season will run from June to October, accommodating groups of up to 24 people. Additionally, off-season stays and larger groups can be arranged upon request.
