And where you need to cut spending.
Summer travel, and summer prices, are ramping up; however, budgeting tools are critical for travelers looking to save for a vacation. One such tool is the Vacay Valuator, introduced by Kayak. This innovative calculator enables travelers to assess what luxuries they might sacrifice to afford a much-needed getaway, as well as how much they can save by doing so. The calculator takes into account everyday indulgences, such as coffee, dining out, alcohol, streaming services like Netflix, clothing purchases, and more.
Although the calculator is calculated using British pounds, a simple Google search can easily convert the cost to U.S. dollars.
“We’ve launched the KAYAK Vacay Valuator to help you see how far you can go by making small adjustments to your everyday spending habits,” Kayak stated during the launch. “Based on the average costs of common items, you can choose what to save on and for how long. The Vacay Valuator then quickly shows you what flight routes are available for that proposed saving.”
To utilize the calculator effectively, travelers can enter their desired saving duration and select which expenditures they are prepared to forgo. Kayak will then present potential vacation destinations on an interactive map, tailored to their budget.
Travelers are also free to adjust their budget and choose from a variety of vacation types, whether they prefer a city adventure, a relaxing beach getaway, a family-friendly locale, or a romantic escape.
This new feature represents the latest addition to Kayak’s suite of travel calculators. Earlier, the platform aided Americans in leveraging their tax refunds for vacation planning.
Moreover, the Vacay Valuator tool is particularly timely given that the cost of international flights has surged nearly 40 percent compared to last summer. Notably, summer airfare to Europe and Asia is now at its highest rate in five years.
Consequently, there are still numerous ways to save money. These methods include exploring less popular destinations, subscribing to email alerts from platforms like Google Flights to gain early access to promotional discounts, and considering bundled vacation packages to maximize value.
