My journey began in the stunning city of Cape Town, South Africa, where I met the White Desert team. From there, I embarked on a five-hour chartered flight to Queen Maud Land, Antarctica. After arriving, we boarded a private jet to Wolf’s Fang Runway—the first private runway in Antarctica. Traveling to this extreme location requires careful planning and a spirit of adventure.
Echo Camp: A Modern Retreat
After experiencing the luxury of Whichaway Camp, I was eager to witness the marvel that is Echo Camp. The architecture and design of the pods evoke futuristic explorations, filled with curios and geometric sculptures. Each pod features floor-to-ceiling windows offering breathtaking views of the snow-covered expanse, creating a truly immersive experience. During my visit, luck was on my side, as the weather permitted us to encounter a colony of Emperor penguins. Observing the fluffy chicks and their curious demeanor was a highlight of the trip. Witnessing the adult penguins slide on their bellies to feed their young was a reminder of the interconnectedness of life in this pristine environment.
