Volkswagen Atlas Basecamp Pack: Enhancing Off-Road Capability
The Volkswagen Atlas recently received a refresh that improved both its aesthetics and interior features. The addition of the swoopier, five-seat Atlas Cross Sport has expanded its model lineup. Recently, Volkswagen introduced an exciting line of accessories known as the Basecamp pack, aimed at enhancing its family hauler to better tackle off-road adventures. While the Atlas may not be the first choice for challenging trails, it certainly benefits from additional capabilities.
Overview of Basecamp Pack Features
The Basecamp pack was set to debut at the now-rescheduled New York International Auto Show. However, it is important to note that this upgrade does not entail a significant mechanical overhaul. Instead, it offers a range of enhancements such as:
- Tougher door sills and side skirts for increased durability
- A two-tone bumper guard for added visual appeal
- Fender flares that protect the body sides
- A satin silver rear valance encircling the exhaust tips
While these modifications may seem cosmetic, they provide vital protection against stones, dirt, and grime, making the Atlas more suitable for off-road environments.
Wheels and Tires: A Functional Upgrade
The most practical feature of the Basecamp pack is undoubtedly the upgraded wheels and tires. Volkswagen collaborated with Fifteen52 to create an exclusive set of 17-inch Traverse MX wheels, coupled with all-terrain tires sized 245/70R17. Customers can choose between frosted graphite or radiant silver finishes for the wheels. Consequently, these enhancements significantly enhance the Atlas’s off-road readiness.
Availability and Compatibility
Volkswagen plans to roll out the Basecamp options to dealers by spring, providing families with a chance to explore the great outdoors with greater confidence. However, it is essential to note that these accessories are not compatible with R-line-trimmed models, and there is currently no information on whether the Basecamp accessories will extend to the Atlas Cross Sport.
