2021 Audi A3 Sportback: A Modern Take on a Compact Luxury Hatchback
Audi’s gradual evolution in the compact hatchback segment continues with the reveal of the 2021 A3 Sportback. This model marks the fourth generation of the A3, showcasing significant advancements in both style and technology.
Striking Design and Aggressive Styling
While the latest Audi A3 retains some familiar elements from its predecessor, it also showcases a refreshed aesthetic that enhances its appeal. The front end appears more aggressive, complemented by shapelier body side panels and a sophisticated rear design. One of the standout features is the new LED headlights, which utilize a pixel array of LED segments to create a signature look.
Revolutionized Interior Features
Inside the A3 Sportback, Audi’s design team implemented more significant changes. The previous model’s circular vents and hidden infotainment screen have been replaced with a more driver-centric layout. The hatchback now includes a standard 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display at the center of the dashboard.
Moreover, every A3 is equipped with a digital instrument cluster, while higher-end models feature a remarkable 12.3-inch display. An available head-up display enhances the digital experience, providing even more options for monitoring vital vehicle information.
Engine Options and Performance Potential
Under the hood, the A3 Sportback presents a range of engine options that may not meet all expectations. Audi offers three different engines: a 148-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and a turbo-diesel 2.0-liter unit producing either 114 or 148 horsepower. Additionally, both a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission are available, although it’s unclear if all gearbox options are compatible with every engine variant.
However, it is anticipated that the U.S.-bound A3 sedan will omit the diesel options in favor of a more powerful 228-hp turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder, similar to the current A3 S Line. Notably, European buyers may also look forward to the possibility of enhanced performance through the more powerful S3 or RS3 Sportback models.
Availability and Expectations
European deliveries for the 2021 A3 Sportback are set to commence in May. Although this versatile and stylish hatchback may not reach U.S. shores, the sedan variant of the fourth-generation A3 is expected to debut in the United States within the upcoming year.
