We Drive the EarthRoamer XV-LTS, and It’s the Nimble Overland Luxury RV of Your Dreams

Explore the EarthRoamer XV-LTS: Luxury Meets Off-Road Capability

The EarthRoamer XV-LTS is the smaller cousin of the company’s dominating XV-HD, affording you not only a smaller sticker price but the ability to navigate tighter off-road trails between you and your next backcountry campsite.

From inside the 2017 EarthRoamer XV-LTS, there’s not much to indicate the vehicle’s extreme off-road capability; rather than giving off a rugged off-road camper vibe, this half-million-dollar rig feels more like an expensive motor yacht. Finely crafted real wood cabinets made in-house are illuminated by hidden LED light strips, and a fogged glass cabinet window hides a backlit wine rack with custom-branded EarthRoamer glasses. High-quality leather cushions designed and sewn also in-house create a truly executive experience in this fully outfitted overland camper. EarthRoamers are beautifully finished inside and out, with every detail attended to. That being said, there’s nothing stopping these beasts from getting where they need to go; in the RV world, they define the word capable.

Bones of the XV-LTS

The EarthRoamer XV-LTS is built on a commercial-grade Ford F-550 platform, ensuring ample power, stability, and strength. It comes equipped with Ford’s 6.7L PowerStroke turbodiesel engine, generating 330 hp and 750 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 rpm, and it is backed by a Ford factory warranty. The EarthRoamer can tow a sizable boat, toy hauler, or additional camping trailer fully loaded without issue for those seeking even further adventures. Thanks to its solar panels, 100-gallon fuel tank, and 377 amps of power from multiple alternators, the XV-LTS will keep you off the grid for an extended period without needing to refuel or recharge. You’ll never truly be off the grid, though, with satellite internet and TV.

The XV-LTS features 41-inch Continental MPT 81 military-grade tires mounted on 20-inch Hutchinson Beadlock aluminum wheels. At all four corners of the rig, there are air-line outlets connected to the Oasis XD3000 heavy-duty air compressor and a 5-gallon tank, allowing easy tire inflation or running air tools for on-trail repairs and maintenance.

EarthRoamer Suspension

The suspension on the EarthRoamer XV-LTS is based on the original heavy-duty F-550 setup, enhanced with King shocks and adjustable Kelderman airbags for front and rear. This design is tailored to easily accommodate the 41-inch tires and ensure superior performance in diverse terrains. Additionally, the airbags can be used to level the rig while camping, as they are individually adjustable. The rig also features AMP power retractable steps to aid passengers without compromising ground clearance.

What if It Gets Stuck?

For those really tricky trails, the EarthRoamer XV-LTS is outfitted with Warn 16.5ti 16,500lb winches at both front and rear. We took the new XV-LTS into the Rockies recently to see how it performs in the snow, so stay tuned for a complete review in the future.

How Can You Get Your Own XV-LTS?

The EarthRoamer XV-LTS has concluded its production run with “ER244” marking the final model number. Nevertheless, the F-550-based platform has been revitalized, now available in a carbon-fiber version. The XV-LTi can be yours with a deposit of $50,000 and a base price starting at $590,000. According to the manufacturer, a well-equipped XV-LTi typically falls in the $650,000-$700,000 range.
