The Infiniti QX80 Probes Its Nissan Roots With a Lift Kit and All-Terrain Tires

Infiniti QX80 Competes in the Rebelle Rally

Despite its Infiniti badging, the QX80 is, at its core, a Nissan Patrol. In the United States, it is recognized as a Nissan Armada. While the Infiniti brand enhances its large SUV with stylish wheels and all-season tires for urban adventures, this flagship model is engineered to tackle tough terrains. Therefore, Infiniti aims to demonstrate its capability by entering a specially constructed QX80 into this year’s Rebelle Rally.

Infiniti QX80 at Rebelle Rally

The Rebelle Rally is an all-female competition that covers a 1,200-mile route beginning near Lake Tahoe and concluding at the Imperial Sand Dunes, just north of the U.S.-Mexico border. To ensure the QX80 meets the challenges of this rally, Infiniti collaborated with Calmini Products, Inc. for modifications. Key enhancements include:

  • A 3.0-inch lift for improved ground clearance
  • Custom bumpers to optimize approach and departure angles
  • Thicker skid plates for increased underbody protection
  • Beefier control arms for better handling
  • Off-road shocks for enhanced suspension performance
  • 18-inch Off-Road Monster wheels fitted with Nitto Terra Grappler all-terrain tires

Moreover, the robust Infiniti SUV is equipped with practical features like a tire air-up and down system, fire extinguishers, tow straps, and full-size spare tires secured in a custom cage within the cargo area. Even with these additional components, the SUV retains its original powertrain. The 5.6-liter V-8 delivers an impressive 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque, directed to all four wheels through a seven-speed automatic transmission.

As the Rebelle Rally nears its conclusion on October 17, 2020, the performance of Team Wander Woman, consisting of automotive writers Nicole Wakelin and Alice Chase, remains to be seen. With a QX80 as their vehicle, they are well-positioned to navigate the event’s arduous terrain. Notably, the QX80 is not alone in its class; the several luxury manufacturers, including Lexus, are also competing with specially prepared vehicles.
