1. Overview of Star of the Seas
What’s better than the largest cruise ship at sea? Two of the largest cruise ships at sea. Royal Caribbean has announced the name of the second ship in its yet-to-be-launched Icon class — Star of the Seas — which is anticipated to debut in summer 2025.
2. Details on Star of the Seas
For now, details are scant about this giant vessel. What we know is that it’s the sibling of the world’s largest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas, a 250,800-gross-ton ship expected to start sailing with passengers (up to 7,600 at a time) in January 2024. Icon of the Seas features an impressive theme park, water park, indoor AquaTheatre, mini golf, three-story suites, and the first swim-up bar at sea. Therefore, we can expect Star of the Seas to be equally massive.
3. Expectations and Innovations
Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, mentioned, “The idea of combining the best of every type of vacation into one ultimate adventure has created more excitement than ever anticipated, and Star of the Seas will be the next bold answer to the record-breaking consumer demand we’ve seen for nearly a year and counting with Icon of the Seas.”
When Icon of the Seas was opened for reservations, it set two records within Royal Caribbean’s history: the single largest booking day and the highest volume booking week.
4. Environmental Initiatives
Moreover, Star of the Seas will be powered by liquified natural gas (LNG), acknowledged as “the cleanest-burning marine fuel available to date” in a press release. Consequently, it will become the third ship in Royal Caribbean’s fleet to utilize this eco-friendly fuel. This initiative brings the company one step closer to its ambitious goal of introducing a net-zero cruise ship by 2035, although there remains much work to do.
5. Future Updates
More updates about Star of the Seas will be released in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for the latest news.
