Moving abroad takes a lot of effort and planning. I can personally attest to this, having relocated from the United States to Portugal in 2021 to complete my Ph.D. in journalism. The entire process involved extensive online research, discussions with friends, and seeking advice from acquaintances to gather essential information. Although I wouldn’t describe moving abroad as an easy endeavor, the experience has been incredibly fulfilling—certainly, the juice was worth the squeeze. Moreover, it seems I’m not alone in my affection for the Iberian nation.

According to a recent report by Givetastic, a platform that aids in collecting contributions for group gifts, Portugal ranks as the 10th most popular country for individuals seeking employment opportunities abroad.

So, where else are people considering relocation? The results indicate that the top choice for Americans is Canada.

Canada was not only the top choice for Americans, but it also ranked first in 56 out of 164 countries surveyed. “Canada presents an excellent option for those looking to emigrate,” the report highlighted. “It boasts abundant employment prospects, free healthcare, and a remarkable education system.
