2025’s Hottest Camping Trends You Need to Know

The Rise of Calm-cations

If travel in 2023 was driven by a need to check off dream items, 2024 is poised to be all about slowing down and spending quality time in nature. A recent survey conducted by Campspot, an online marketplace for family campgrounds, cabins, glamping, and RV spots, reveals this emerging trend.

Survey Insights

The survey polled nearly 3,000 Campspot customers across North America from June 27 to July 5, 2023. It found that after a year filled with fast-paced, bucket-list travel, many travelers feel drained and disconnected from the essence of the destinations they visit. Furthermore, one in three respondents expressed stress regarding the economic uncertainty ahead, with approximately 70% craving a sense of calm and relaxation during their trips in 2024.

Enter the “calm-cation,” a term created by Campspot to describe vacations that offer refuge from life’s complexities. These camping-focused calm-cations are often closer to home, more affordable, and deeply immersed in nature—elements that many campers highly desire. Interestingly, 93% of campers report feeling more relaxed or mentally refreshed after a camping experience compared to other types of travel.

However, today’s campers are not interested in primitive experiences; they prefer enticing waterfront locations, stunning views, and reliable internet connectivity to enhance their outdoor experience. Therefore, Campspot anticipates an increase in demand for glamping sites, cabins, and amenity-rich campgrounds with activities such as kayaking, fishing, and paddleboarding, as well as locations famous for fresh air and spectacular starry nights.

“Fresh air ranked as the top factor contributing to a sense of relaxation while outdoors, with over half of the campers (63%) seeking breathtaking views as part of their camping plans for 2024,” reported Campspot.

Moreover, 91% of campers feel more at ease when they have some form of internet access, even if they intend to disconnect during their getaway. Camping—especially the more luxurious glamping variant—proves to be an appealing option. It is significantly more affordable than a European holiday, offers access to nature’s beauty, and naturally fosters a sense of relaxation and tranquility.

In conclusion, whether you are a seasoned camper or just beginning your outdoor adventures, these experiences promise to rejuvenate the spirit and create unforgettable memories without straining your wallet.
