1. Summary
Whether you’re visiting or a local, you’ll want to know where the best loos are in central London. London train stations (not tube stations) all have toilets, but they’re not usually free and can cost up to 50p per visit.
The following public toilets have been selected for their proximity to major London attractions. (Remember, all museums and galleries also offer free loos.)
The Great British Public Toilet Map is a handy tool to locate restrooms in your area.
02. Near The London Eye
The London Eye Ticket Hall, located in County Hall, provides free toilets downstairs. A few steps further along the South Bank leads to the Southbank Centre, where you can find numerous clean toilets within the Royal Festival Hall, along with a vibrant cafe and bar, and various restaurants outside.
03. Near the Houses of Parliament/Westminster Abbey
The toilets located opposite Westminster Abbey charge 50p per visit. Fortunately, free toilets can also be found in the Parliament Square area. The Methodist Central Hall, just a two-minute walk from the Houses of Parliament and adjacent to the public facilities that charge, features toilets in the basement with elevator access. A visit to Wesley’s Cafe located in the same area might enhance your experience.
04. Trafalgar Square Sights
Public toilets can be found on the west side of Trafalgar Square at the base of the central staircase. Access is available via an elevator from the north terrace (the raised area in front of the National Gallery), or you can choose to walk around the side of the square. Moreover, baby care facilities are available.
If you prefer, the National Gallery offers free facilities that can be utilized instead.
05. Oxford Street Department Stores
All department stores in London provide public toilets that are accessible to anyone, without any charges. Most of these stores boast multiple public toilet facilities across various floors, ensuring minimal wait times.
Key department stores to note on Oxford Street include Selfridges, House of Fraser, Debenhams, and John Lewis.
06. McDonalds
McDonalds restaurants in London generally maintain clean public toilets. As long as you do not hinder paying customers, it is usually acceptable to use their facilities. Even in cases where there’s a sign indicating ‘Toilets for Customers Only,’ you can typically utilize them without issue.
