Summary
Exploring Florence with the Firenzecard
When you plan a trip to Florence, Italy and anticipate visiting several museums and monuments, consider purchasing the Firenzecard, a pass that affords the buyer entrance to 76 of the city’s most important museums, monuments, and gardens; access to priority entrance lines; and unlimited use of the city’s public transportation. The pass is valid for 72 hours from the time of its first use and costs 85 euros.
The Value of a Firenzecard
Buying a Firenzecard could save you time and money depending on how many places you visit. Because it is prepaid, you won’t have to stand in long ticket lines, reserve ahead, or buy each ticket separately each time you want to enter a museum or monument.
Moreover, this pass includes admission to many outstanding special exhibits throughout the year. Consequently, if you want to see one of these time-limited exhibits, you will pay no additional charge.
Some of the monuments and museums on the pass are already free, but the pass gives you access to priority entrance lines. At very popular sites with enormous traffic, this feature could alone be worth the price of the card.
The card allows free admission for those under 18 years of age who are members of the same family of the Firenzecard holder.
Buying and Picking Up a Firenzecard
You can check current prices and buy the card online on the Firenzecard website, at one of the participating museums, or at a tourist information point in the city. If you purchase the card online, check the website for collection points where you can pick it up.
Interestingly, you can also download the Firenzecard App to your smartphone, enter the code of your voucher, and get the digital Firenzecard.
Using a Firenzecard
When you receive the card, write your name on it immediately. At the entrance to a museum or monument, look for the Firenzecard sign and show your pass there for admission. On a bus, swipe the card against the validation machine inside the bus as soon as you board.
To use the card for entrance to Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Duomo Dome, the Baptistry, and the Crypt of Santa Reparata, go to the Firenzecard dedicated ticket office at the Opera del Duomo Art and Culture Center, located at Piazza San Giovanni 7, to collect the free ticket that you’ll use in the turnstiles when you enter these monuments.
The card becomes “valid” on the first time you use it, and it will remain valid for 72 hours; you have one month from purchase to validate the card. Each cardholder is permitted one admission to each of the participating venues.
