Not Small
Waxy O’Connor’s is London’s biggest Irish bar. It’s conveniently located near Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, and Chinatown, making it a prime spot for both locals and tourists.
From the outside, you might perceive it as a small café or bar; however, once you step inside, you will be astounded by its size. It’s enormous! Never suggest to friends that you will meet them at the bar at Waxy O’Connor’s, as you’ll need to decide on which bar inside in advance. This place is truly cavernous, featuring a massive tree trunk running through the center!
Once you are all settled in, remember to plan your route back when you venture in search of the toilets.
Six Levels
Waxy O’Connor’s boasts six levels and four unique bars. This venue is a labyrinth filled with staircases and passages. Because it’s not a single, large room, it can feel cozy, particularly with the low ceilings on some levels.
It’s truly a remarkable venue to enjoy a few pints of Guinness, and you will also find that the food is quite good.
Music & Sport
As expected in any authentic Irish bar, music plays a vital role at Waxy O’Connor’s, with live bands performing on many nights of the week. Moreover, ’90s tunes often keep the atmosphere lively.
This establishment is also an official London Rugby Pub, showing matches while offering match tickets and hosting special London Irish events and promotions.
There’s a relaxed vibe here that makes it a favorite with both locals and visitors, contributing to its character.
Harry Potter’s Church?
The interior resembles the intricate timber carvings found in a Catholic church, complete with pulpits overlooking the bottom bar, stained glass windows, church pews, and rustic wooden seats. The hidden nooks and crannies remind some patrons of scenes from Harry Potter movies, such as the mystery of Diagon Alley. Nevertheless, there is nothing ominous about this place; it’s simply a fun and quirky venue to enjoy drinks with friends.
Adding to its unique decor, there’s a beech tree inside the pub that many overlook due to the vibrant atmosphere.
