Summary
Discover the Great Escape Lodge: A Unique Indoor Water Park Experience
The Great Escape Lodge is the first and only indoor water park from the Six Flags chain. It opened as New York’s first indoor water park and became a major indoor water park resort in the Northeast U.S. Strategically located across from The Great Escape theme park, this lodge enhances guest experiences during the theme park’s busy May to October season. Furthermore, the resort remains open year-round, providing plenty of off-season fun.
Six Flags is not widely recognized for its hotel operations, thus making this first attempt at a water park resort quite remarkable. Inspired by the Great Wolf Lodge, the Great Escape Lodge exhibits a striking yet comfortable, pseudo-rustic design that welcomes visitors.
The property boasts an inviting early-1900s Adirondack theme, with all rooms being generously sized suites available in various configurations. Some suites even feature bunk beds, accommodating up to 12 guests. However, it’s important to note that prices reflect the high quality of the accommodations. Therefore, consider midweek or off-season periods to secure lower rates.
Attractions at the Water Park
At 38,000 square feet, the Great Escape’s park is relatively small compared to other indoor water parks. Unlike many larger indoor parks, The Great Escape Lodge does not feature a wave pool or a water coaster—typically popular attractions at Six Flags venues. The single whirlpool spa is also small and reserved for adults. Despite its size, the indoor water park presents a surprising number of slides and attractions.
Notable attractions comprise a variety of slides, a surprisingly long lazy river, and interactive water fun. Standouts include the Tall Timbers Treehouse, an interactive water play structure with a tipping bucket, the Avalanche family raft ride, and Boogie Bear Surf, a FlowRider wave simulator ideal for body surfing. Furthermore, the unique transparent roof allows ample sunshine, enabling guests to enjoy year-round tanning opportunities.
Things to Do in Addition to the Water Park
The resort offers numerous contests, crafts projects, and a full daily schedule of “dry” activities through its Kids’ Club, reminiscent of a cruise ship itinerary tailored for children.
The Timbertown characters, such as Spruce the Moose and Oakley the Bear, frequently join in the activities. Notably, although The Great Escape and The Great Escape Lodge are both owned and operated by Six Flags, the Looney Tunes characters featured at other chain properties are not present. Instead, the Timbertown characters are unique to this location, providing kids with exclusive fun.
Another unique offering is Adventure Trek: Quest of the Guardians, an interactive game experience available for an additional fee. Participants utilize interactive wands to solve mysteries and uncover clues scattered throughout the resort. Additionally, an arcade filled with Skee Ball, video games, and various skill games keeps guests entertained.
Moreover, adults seeking relaxation can book massages or other spa treatments at the resort’s spa; treatments are also available for kids. Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the on-site fitness center, which is included in lodging rates.
Dining Options at the Resort
Guests will be pleased to find a variety of dining options at the Great Escape Lodge. Although greasy fries and pizza are available, the resort’s quality restaurants, particularly the cozy Tall Tales Tavern, exceed typical Six Flags fare. Visitors can enjoy pub-style dinner offerings and breakfast selections. In addition, a Johnny Rockets and a Johnny Rockets Sports Lounge are conveniently located on-site.
Location and Directions
The indoor water park is exclusive to registered hotel guests, with admission included in room rates. Day passes for the public are also an option.
