Guangzhou Airport Overview
With an increasing number of international flights via China Southern and a wide selection of regional flights, Guangzhou Airport has become a popular hub for visitors exploring Southern China.
Furthermore, in previous years, the bus network was the primary means of transport to and from the airport. However, the recent connection of the airport to the metro has made traveling significantly easier. The Guangzhou metro system is efficient and provides access to almost every area of the city. Operating on metro line 3, trains run to and from the airport between 6 am and 11 pm. Tickets for the metro can be purchased at the concourse, with instructions available in English on the ticket machines.
Given Guangzhou’s notorious traffic, utilizing the metro often proves to be a quicker alternative to taking a taxi.

Taxis from Guangzhou Airport
Taxis in Guangzhou are relatively affordable, and the traffic flow is generally better than in major cities like Beijing or Hong Kong. However, be cautious of unlicensed drivers approaching you in the arrivals hall. Typically, the fare from the airport to downtown should be around 120 RMB. It is advisable to use the counters located in the lobby or outside gates A5 or B6 for a reliable service.
Traveling to Hong Kong
Traveling from Guangzhou Airport to Hong Kong can present some challenges, especially depending on your arrival time. The most straightforward option is to take a direct bus from the airport. Multiple bus companies serve this route, but timetables are often only available in Chinese. Buses depart approximately every 45 minutes until around 7 pm, and can be found in front of exit 7 on the arrivals concourse. One-way tickets can be purchased directly from the driver.
Alternatively, you can take a train from Guangzhou to Hong Kong via the Guangzhou East Rail Station. This station is accessible through the metro line and offers hourly train services until around 7 pm. The journey takes only two hours and arrives at Hung Hom Station in Hong Kong.
For travelers on a layover, staying at one of the Guangzhou Airport hotels might be a more comfortable option.
