Dave took amazing Switzerland pictures from our grand tour of Switzerland and from previous trips from Lucerne to Geneva. When I look at this collection of Swiss photos, I am impressed by their variety.
The Best Switzerland Pictures
Switzerland is one of the most beautiful countries on earth to see and photograph. From the cities to the mountains, everywhere is postcard-perfect. Enjoy this journey through Switzerland in photos and escape to Switzerland with us today!
Zermatt – Matterhorn
The Matterhorn is the symbol of Switzerland, and no trip to the country would be complete without witnessing its striking beauty. This photo was taken at sunrise. Take the Sunnega Valley Train to Stellisee and make sure to book ahead of time for sunrise during the summer months only. For more information on lift tickets visit: Zermatt.ch
You won’t find a more striking view in Switzerland than Gornergrat. Located at an elevation of 3,089 m, Gornergrat has been one of Switzerland’s top destinations for more than a century in the Zermatt Matterhorn Region.
The historic Cogwheel Railways, built in the early 1900s when exploring the Alps was all the rage, lead up to Gornergrat, our favorite spot for photography in Switzerland.
This classic view of Zermatt represents the quintessential postcard photo from Switzerland. It’s just a 15-minute hike from town to get to this famous lookout.
Grindelwald
Bachalpsee (Lake Bachalp) in Grindelwald is one of the most iconic Switzerland images in the Jungfrau Region. This magnificent lake can be reached by taking the Firstbahn gondola to Grindelwald First, followed by a 3 km hike out to the lake.
Furthermore, when visiting Grindelwald, do not miss Jungfraujoch – the Top of Europe. Take the historic cogwheel train up to Jungfraujoch for one of the most spectacular views in Switzerland.
St. Moritz and Other Beautiful Mountains
St. Moritz is one of the premier places to visit in Switzerland. This remarkable photo was taken from our balcony of the luxurious Hotel Kulm St. Moritz at sunrise. St. Moritz surprised us. We had previously explored Grindelwald, Interlaken, Zermatt, and Leukerbad, and did not anticipate any further wonders. However, after hiking to the Sunnega Hut in St. Moritz, we were astounded by the breathtaking view.
Swiss Cities Captured in Stunning Images
To achieve different looks, Dave captured his Switzerland pictures at various times throughout the day using methods ranging from long exposures on a tripod to handheld shots, resulting in stunning images.
The skyline of Zurich at sunset can be dramatically illuminated with the cathedral spires glowing. Dave’s images of Switzerland are remarkable due to their variety from destination to destination.
This Switzerland photo exquisitely captures the essence of Basel. A swimmer floats gracefully in the Rhine while a ferry crosses from Grossbasel to Klein Basel. This ferry operates as a reaction ferry, relying on current without motor or paddle power.
Lucerne may be famous for the Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke) spanning the River Reuss, but my favorite image occurs at night, showcasing twinkling lights shimmering in the water.
Lugano, situated in the Ticino region of Switzerland, feels like a little slice of the Italian Riviera, presenting unique opportunities for memorable Switzerland photos.
It’s hard to believe this is Switzerland; it appears more akin to Italy or Spain. Nevertheless, the vibrant and picturesque town of Ascona, located on the lakeshore, showcases Switzerland’s diverse beauty.
Unique Switzerland Photography Highlights
The cows of Grindelwald provide delightful subjects for photographers. These gentle animals were spotted along the Eiger Trail of the Jungfrau Region. This trail is the perfect hike after visiting Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe.
Moreover, you’ll encounter the use of a shallow depth of field while walking through a Swiss vineyard, long-exposure night shots of Interlaken, and classic photographs untouched by post-processing.
These Switzerland pictures represent the crème de la crème, showcasing the country’s stunning landscapes and cultural richness.
