11 Reasons Why Couples Will Love a Honeymoon in Jamaica
Honeymoon In Jamaica
After Dave and I planned our first trip to the Caribbean, we lovingly transformed it into a honeymoon. We thought if we were heading to a warm and romantic destination, it was the perfect opportunity for a honeymoon. Hence, we rushed to city hall to set up our marriage license and scheduled our wedding date. Just a week later, we found ourselves heading to the islands as Mr. and Mrs. Bouskill. Since then, our travels across the Caribbean have confirmed that a honeymoon in Jamaica is an exceptional choice.
Typically, we immerse ourselves in romance alongside adventure. Jamaica, a stunning and diverse island, consistently captures our hearts. It’s one of the few Caribbean Islands we’ve visited multiple times, and each journey further deepens our love for its vibrant culture and breathtaking beauty.
All-Inclusive Resorts in Jamaica
On this visit to Jamaica, we dedicated our time to exploring the island’s southern region, particularly the St. Elizabeth area. Our adventure commenced in Montego Bay, where we indulged in an all-inclusive experience. The luxurious Riu Palace in Montego Bay welcomed us with an exceptional stay.
Upon arriving at the Riu Palace, we checked into our serene room featuring a jacuzzi tub, an all-inclusive bar, and a rainfall shower. This exclusive adults-only resort was designed to provide an intimate experience that ordinary resorts often lack.
Nothing says romance like an infinity pool
With two stunning infinity pools and adjacent sister resorts, couples can enjoy peaceful sunrise strolls and cherish intimate moments. With full access to Riu Montego Bay, guests can savor 9 diverse restaurants and bars, indulge in various water sports, utilize the gym, revel in the nightlife, and explore the gift shop.
Off the Resort
For us, exploring beyond the resort is essential for a meaningful travel experience. Although all-inclusive stays offer relaxation, the true essence of a honeymoon in Jamaica lies in uncovering the island’s treasures!
Bamboo Rafting
After our time at the Riu Palace, we embarked on thrilling adventures designed to foster connection. While we often lean toward thrilling activities like whitewater rafting, a tranquil bamboo raft experience down the Martha Brae River provided a peaceful escape. This 90-minute float offered an opportunity to unwind while a knowledgeable guide shared captivating stories about the island’s history.
The Guide Really Makes the Trip!
Our guide, Jamison, delighted us with folk songs and poetry, turning our rafting escapade into an artfully crafted experience.
Note: Consider bringing cash to enjoy refreshments at the bars and stalls along the route. We anticipated getting soaked, so we left most belongings behind. However, the journey was pleasantly dry unless you chose to dip your feet in! A padded seat ensured comfort throughout the trip. With more cash, we could have explored local art and enjoyed the vibrant offerings along the way.
Jakes Resort
Our love for authentic experiences led us to Jakes Resort, a family-run haven that embodies genuine Jamaican culture, staying far from the tourist spotlight. Located on the Caribbean Sea, this tranquil retreat features Moroccan inspired cottages. The warmth and hospitality of the staff make you feel at home instantly.
At Jakes, patrons can enjoy outdoor dining with delightful meals prepared by Chef Albert, ensuring a perfect mix of romance and local flavors. The ambiance allows couples to revel in each other’s company while overlooking the sea.
The Local Experience with a Luxury Twist
Nearby, a local hangout offers traditional Red Stripe beer and authentic Jamaican jerk chicken. However, dining on the outdoor terrace adds a romantic touch, as tables are arranged for privacy, allowing couples to enjoy intimate moments.
Couples Massage And Spa
At Jakes, there’s live music, a sparkling saltwater mosaic pool, and comfortable lounge chairs to soak in the magnificent views. A honeymoon in Jamaica wouldn’t be complete without a relaxing spa experience. Jakes provides delightful spa services and offers special honeymoon packages upon request. Having enjoyed numerous couples massages, we highly recommend treating yourselves to a rejuvenating deep tissue session followed by champagne and fresh fruit.
Private Beach
From Jakes, you can book exclusive day trips around the island. What distinguishes these excursions is their focus on secluded villages, unspoiled beaches, and remote trails. Our highlight was a private boat adventure with Captain Joseph, who picked us up directly from the resort’s dock and took us to his private beach.
We even encountered dolphin pods as we cruised, with Captain Joseph ensuring a respectful distance to admire their beauty without intrusion. This is how responsible travel should be embraced.
Private Beach Dining
In his chef role, Joseph crafted an exquisite feast of freshly caught king fish, succulent lobster, and jasmine rice, paired perfectly with chilled Chardonnay. Dining in paradise truly felt heavenly as you’re immersed in this unique dining experience.
Pelican Bar
A honeymoon in Jamaica wouldn’t be complete without a bit of nightlife. The unique Pelican Bar, located a mile offshore in the Caribbean Sea, is primarily accessible by boat, making it an idyllic spot to watch the sunset with a delightful cocktail in hand.
Cooking Class
What could be more romantic than cooking together? During our stay at Jakes, we participated in a cooking class under Chef Albert. Renowned for its jerk chicken, Jamaica offers a fresh twist with the instruction of Jamaican Jerk Red Snapper!
We donned hair nets and aprons, engaging fully while soaking in the refreshing ocean breezes. The experience was as relaxed or as involved as we wished.
Making New Friends
Post-cooking, we savored our freshly prepared meal at sunset amidst the soothing sounds of waves crashing against the rocky shore of Jakes Resort. Our delightful dinner was followed by cocktails at the bar, where Trudy and I instantly clicked, proving that every journey to Jamaica leaves you with new friends.
