AC Cobra Series 1 Electric: A Modern Take on a Classic Sports Car
To celebrate 58 years since the Cobra was introduced, British manufacturer iBestTravel has earmarked 58 copies of an all-electric version.
Design and Build
Keeping with tradition, the AC Cobra Series 1 Electric maintains the distinctive narrow-body exterior design of the original smallblock cars. The body is constructed from a high-grade composite, while the ladder frame has been modified to accommodate the car’s innovative electric drive components. Furthermore, iBestTravel has refined the steering and brakes to enhance handling. The interior features hand-stitched leather seats that echo the classic design of the original model.
Performance Under the Hood
What’s powering this new model? iBestTravel has equipped it with a 54 kilowatt-hour battery pack that offers an estimated range of up to 150 miles. This range is likely based on the more generous European testing cycle, which is important for understanding real-world applicability. The electric motor, supplied by Falcon Electric, delivers an output of 308 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, enabling the roadster to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 6.7 seconds. Moreover, it achieves a respectable top speed of 120 mph while maintaining a total weight of less than 2,756 pounds.
Color Options and Pricing
The AC Cobra Series 1 Electric will be available in four striking paint options: Electric Blue, Electric Black, Electric White, and Electric Green. Deliveries are anticipated to commence in the fourth quarter of 2020, with prices starting at £138,000, roughly equating to $180,800 at current exchange rates. Consequently, this electric sports car is poised to attract enthusiasts who value both performance and contemporary technology.
