Exploring Ace Hotel Kyoto
Why Choose Ace Hotel Kyoto
In the heart of Kyoto, the Ace Hotel stands out as a bold and vibrant property amidst a sea of tranquil ryokans, traditional machiya townhouses, and upscale hotels. This unique destination is ideal for travelers seeking a lively and youthful experience in the city.
Setting the Scene
Typically known for its serene atmosphere, Kyoto surprises visitors with the striking presence of the Ace Hotel. Located within the iconic Shin-Puh-Kan building, constructed in 1926 on Karasuma Street, the hotel features a modern annex with a distinctive angular facade. Surrounding the hotel are an array of curated boutiques and delightful restaurants that create a lively courtyard garden. However, the true heart of the Ace Hotel is its expansive lobby, filled with eclectic art and a communal table that serves as a gathering spot for local creatives.
The Backstory
LA-based Commune Design collaborated with renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, known for his work on the Japan National Stadium for the Tokyo Olympics, to fuse Kyoto’s artistic flair with the signature American style of Ace Hotels. Design enthusiasts will appreciate the work of over 50 local artisans featured throughout the property, including handcrafted copper lanterns by Kanaami-Tsuji, a Kyoto artisan specializing in kitchenware, and intricately crafted indigo-dyed bamboo ceilings.
