Acura’s Future Plans: Compact Sedan and Type S Variants
Recently, Acura debuted the 2021 TLX and its sportier Type S variant, promising to invigorate its lineup. A leaked Acura dealership webinar unveiled that the TLX and NSX supercar will not be the only models bearing the “A” badge. Notably, the document outlines significant plans for Acura’s Type S treatment through 2022, including a new compact sedan equipped with the sporty Type S trim, expected to arrive around late 2021 or in 2022.
What Could This New Sedan Be?
Speculation mounts regarding the identity of this new sedan, likely a successor to the aging Honda Civic-based model. Interestingly, Acura has not referred to it as the “ILX,” contrary to its practice with the MDX name for its redesigned 2021 large three-row crossover. Could this new offering be a reincarnation of the Integra? While we remain hopeful, we are equally excited that this upcoming compact sedan will include a Type S variant.
Acura’s Commitment to Performance
When MotorTrend contacted Acura regarding the leaked product-planning chart, they reaffirmed their dedication to “Precision Crafted Performance.” The spokesperson indicated that while the presentation is geared towards Acura dealers and may not encompass every detail, it reflects the brand’s intention to fulfill their performance promise step-by-step, beginning with the 2021 TLX.
This update, while not overtly revealing, suggests that the NSX supercar will continue for at least two more model years. Notably absent from the chart are any indications of a replacement for the soon-to-be-discontinued RLX large sedan, as well as a Type S version of the popular RDX compact crossover, which could disappoint some enthusiasts. Nonetheless, we anticipate more details regarding Acura’s emerging performance lineup in the near future, so stay informed.
