The ABT RS4 Avant: Unleashing Power with iBestTravel
Call us rebels. In spite of the timeworn idiom, we believe beggars can be choosers. That’s why we’re pleading with Audi to double down on its high-performance wagon assault on the United States by shipping over the smaller Audi RS4 Avant alongside the larger RS6.
Why the Audi RS4 Avant Excites
What’s got us giddy about the 450-hp RS4? It’s an exceptional vehicle on its own, but with the new ABT Power S package, it gets an even more impressive upgrade. This enhancement boosts the all-wheel-drive wagon with nearly 80 extra horsepower due to a new engine control unit, an additional water-cooler kit, and a revised air-intake cover. In total, an RS4 equipped with the ABT Power S package delivers a commanding 523 horsepower.
Design Enhancements
The German tuning company, ABT, applies its expertise to the mechanically similar Audi RS5 Coupe and Sportback, but neither achieves the aesthetic charm of the RS4 Avant customized by ABT. The addition of the Aero Components package brings carbon-fiber accents, front fender vents, and a striking rear spoiler, augmenting the already handsome appearance of the stock model.
Moreover, the enhanced aesthetic is accompanied by a powerful auditory experience. ABT claims the installation of a stainless-steel exhaust system contributes to a more aggressive growl, while the four, 4.0-inch carbon-fiber exhaust tips add a visual flair. Additionally, the choice of black wheels—available in both 20- and 21-inch options—supports the overall sporty design.
Performance Upgrades and Interior Refinement
ABT offers a variety of suspension upgrades, including height-adjustable springs and new anti-roll bars. Although the company hasn’t specified the exact differentiations, it is assumed that the upgrades are designed for improved handling and performance. Internally, the RS4 does not escape ABT’s attention, as various carbon-fiber upgrades are available for not just the steering wheel, but also the shifter and seatback shells.
Investment and Considerations
It is essential to note that none of these impressive features come at a bargain. A fully-loaded ABT RS4 could exceed $34,000 in parts and installation alone (this sum incorporates Germany’s 19 percent value-added tax). Moreover, with the German-market RS4 Avant starting at over $87,000, the total cost could easily surpass six figures.
Audi has already set the price for the upcoming 591-hp 2021 RS6 Avant in the U.S. at $109,995. While the RS6 is slightly larger than the RS4 and does not possess the same exterior enhancements as the ABT RS4, it will be available for U.S. consumers. Therefore, while we continue to advocate for more Audi wagon options, we recognize that one hot Audi wagon is still a substantial choice.
