Amtrak is making it easier to explore the country by train, now offering a $200 discount on its popular USA Rail Pass.
The pass, currently available for just $299, allows travelers to enjoy 10 rides over the course of 30 days at a flat rate, as shared by Amtrak with iBestTravel. The sale is valid until Jan. 20, and passes can be activated up to 120 days after purchase.
“Travelers can kick off the new year by planning an adventurous cross-country train journey, visiting different towns, or simply enjoying a few extended weekends away from home,” Amtrak stated. “Whether you want to discover hidden gems or visit friends in nearby cities, the USA Rail Pass enables customers to maximize their vacation days with more escapes.”
The pass, normally priced at $499, permits travel to many of Amtrak’s over 500 destinations throughout the United States, from breathtaking national parks to urban getaways, exciting ski trips, and much more. Plus, there are no blackout dates to worry about.
It is important to note that upgrades to business class or private rooms are not permitted with this sale, and the pass cannot be utilized on the Auto Train, Acela trains, thruway bus connections, or on the Canadian sections of trains operated in partnership with VIA Rail Canada.
Travelers who obtain the pass must confirm each journey on Amtrak’s website, through its app, or with an agent prior to travel, and they must possess a ticket and a reservation for every leg of the trip.
Moreover, those who opt not to purchase the pass can still find ways to save money on rail journeys by booking their tickets weeks ahead and checking for discount routes on Amtrak’s website, which offers various discounts for students, veterans, and more.
Currently, Amtrak has extended waivers on change fees for reservations made by Feb. 28. However, some cancellation fees still apply, and travelers who decide to cancel a Saver Fare ticket after 24 hours of purchase will only be eligible to receive 75 percent of the original ticket price in the form of a non-refundable eVoucher.
