100-Day Arctic Expedition Raising Climate Change Awareness

Mark Wood’s Arctic Adventure: SOLO 100

Mark Wood, an experienced explorer with a background in the fire and rescue service and the British Army, is embarking on a new and exciting adventure—a 100-day journey to the Arctic. This expedition aims to raise awareness about climate change while attempting to set a new Guinness World Record.

SOLO 100: A Journey for Climate Awareness

Named SOLO 100, this project will have Mark Wood venturing solo and unaided across the remaining Arctic sea ice. His goal is to spark discussions about climate change and highlight our impact on the planet. Wood stated, “Not everyone can see how we directly impact the planet; and what we don’t see, we tend to ignore. Earth is our only home and we must do everything we can to protect it. Our youth are demanding urgent action so that we can create a world that is fit for life. In this decade of action, we have the chance to listen and take action but we need everyone on this journey.”

Connecting with the World

Throughout the SOLO 100 adventure, Mark will share inspirational tales and provide daily updates from the Arctic. Each message will feature different scouts presenting their stories and insights on climate change, encouraging students across various locations to advocate for urgent action and drive real change. This expedition is also tied to a forthcoming documentary titled Beneath the Ice.

The Challenges Ahead

During his journey, Mark will traverse over 1850 kilometres of unstable sea ice, confronting the most hostile and unforgiving environment on the planet. He will endure average temperatures of minus 40 degrees, strong polar winds, and complete isolation from human contact. Additionally, he faces the potential threat of polar bears and the unpredictability of ever-shifting sea ice.

Supporting the Expedition

To finance this significant undertaking, Mark is currently seeking £20,000 in crowdfunding. Contributors can receive photo books and survival packs as incentives for their support.
