Travel Advisory for Aspen: COVID-19 Testing Requirement
If you’re heading to Aspen this winter to enjoy its magnificent ski slopes, be aware that this popular ski destination now requires visitors to undergo COVID-19 testing.
About Aspen’s Skiing Experience
Aspen is renowned as one of the world’s most famous mountain destinations. Its four ski slopes offer some of Colorado’s best powder turns. Moreover, the historic downtown area boasts excellent restaurants at nearly every corner, creating an aura of understated chic that attracts hordes of visitors annually. To protect the local community as the winter ski season gets underway, Pitkin County has announced a requirement for travelers aged ten years and over to arrive with a negative COVID-19 test result.
Requirements for Travelers
Upon arriving at Aspen/Pitkin County Airport, visitors are required to complete a “travel affidavit” online, where they must upload evidence of a negative COVID-19 test result administered within 72 hours of arriving in Pitkin County. Additionally, travelers must be symptom-free for 10 days prior to travel. Consequently, those who arrive without a completed test will need to quarantine for 10 days upon arrival. Furthermore, travelers awaiting test results will be obliged to quarantine until their results are available. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in fines of up to US$5000 (€4115), considered a violation of a public health order.
Travel Exemptions and Further Information
It is important to note that this ruling specifically pertains to Pitkin County. Therefore, travelers arriving from other parts of Colorado must also adhere to these requirements. The traveler affidavit applies to those spending one or more nights in the area and does not apply to day visitors. Additionally, individuals who regularly commute to Pitkin County for school or work are exempt from these regulations.
