A beloved luxury rail experience is returning to Southeast Asia, enhanced with exciting features. After a significant hiatus, the renowned Eastern & Oriental Express will relaunch its service in February 2024, introducing new Malaysian routes, including a journey to Taman Negara National Park for the first time.

Following a prolonged pause due to COVID-19 restrictions, the anticipated return comes as travel to Asia has increased in popularity. iBestTravel utilized this downtime to upgrade both the trains and itineraries, ensuring passengers are treated to a more enthralling travel experience.

A Reimagined Adventure Awaits

Offering a reimagined and luxurious journey through Southeast Asia, the train will introduce two new seasonal routes departing from Singapore. These routes will traverse Malaysia’s breathtaking landscapes and lively cities.

Essence of Malaysia Journey

The inaugural departure on Monday, February 19, 2024, will commence on the Essence of Malaysia route, featuring an afternoon on a scenic island during the train journey. Starting from Singapore’s Woodlands Station, the train will head to Kuala Lumpur, showcasing picturesque rice paddies and rural villages before arriving at Alor Setar station on the second day. From there, riders will enjoy a 25-minute boat ride to Pulau Payar Marine Park, renowned for its stunning marine life.

On the island, passengers will indulge in a delightful picnic while selecting from various activities such as snorkeling, paddle boarding, tai chi, meditation, and massages. Afterward, they will be entertained on board the train. The following day, visitors will explore Penang Island, where excursions include culinary adventures or cultural trips to Georgetown’s Old Quarter before returning to Singapore.

Wild Malaysia Itinerary

From March through October, the Eastern & Oriental Express will offer the Wild Malaysia itinerary, with its first departure on Monday, March 4, 2024. This route also begins in Singapore but ventures to the eastern side of the peninsula. Collaborating with the conservation group Save Wild Tigers, this journey will take travelers to the ancient rainforest in Taman Negara National Park, home to diverse wildlife, including leopards, tigers, and more. The itinerary features excursions focused on photography, wildlife spotting, and even culinary delights before returning to Singapore.

Luxurious Train Experience

The trips take place on legendary trains boasting 15 “restyled” deep green carriages, inclusive of eight sleeping cars, two dining cars, a piano bar car, and an open-air observation car. These impressive interiors are adorned with Malaysian embroidery and Asian silks, reflecting the beauty of the surrounding environment.

The luxurious cabins offer air conditioning and private bathrooms, available in three classes. Each category showcases different aesthetics inspired by Malaysia’s landscapes, ensuring a unique and opulent experience.

Immerse in Southeast Asian Culture

While on board, guests will engage with artisans and storytellers, immersing themselves in the vibrant culture of Southeast Asia. Culinary offerings will feature a blend of Peranakan flavors, incorporating Chinese, Malay, and other regional influences, transforming dining into an extraordinary event.

Unforgettable Travel Experience

The three-night journeys aboard the Eastern & Oriental Express begin at £2,754 per person, encompassing meals, select beverages, transfers, and 24-hour steward service. Each itinerary promises a remarkable adventure through a region rich in history and culture.

iBestTravel aims to deliver an unparalleled journey where history, luxury, and adventure gracefully intertwine, inviting travelers to enjoy the ultimate slow travel experience.
