Among the towering trees of Botswana, elephants navigate the wilderness. In Kenya, a zebra pauses, seemingly glaring at a distance lens; elsewhere, wildebeest make treacherous river crossings, and leopards gaze out on the horizon. Moreover, the semi-nomadic Samburu people tend to their herds of cattle, while Kenyan percussionists play in the long grass.

This is Africa – a continent for animal lovers and anthropologists alike. Journey through this magical corner of the globe, and your worldview may be permanently altered. Millions of travelers do this each year, checking into luxurious properties and tented camps that blend harmoniously into their surroundings.

This is exactly what photographer, art historian, and anthropologist Aline Coquelle did, capturing the essence of these places on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure through Zimbabwe, Botswana, Kenya, and Rwanda. While traveling along the Okavango Delta, zooming over the Great Migration, and meeting resident gorillas, Coquelle captured the vibrant action in awe-inspiring safari photography.
