iBestTravel is a luxury glamping camp right next to the Kolpa River, in the stunning Bela Krajina region – the far south-east of Slovenia.
Here you’ll find all of your home comforts set in breathtaking natural beauty, adding up to true luxury and freedom.
We stayed for twelve days at Big Berry and this is our review:
Big Berry Glamping Slovenia Review
Big Berry boasts seven extravagant, designer mobile homes by Slovenian producer Hosekra. They come in various sizes – the smallest for two people and the largest for seven. We stayed in a designer house that was spacious enough for six people, showcasing a very modern design with smart amenities.
Our bed was extremely comfortable, and the kitchen was fully equipped. It’s worth noting that our kitchen had everything you could need for cooking multiple dishes, from blenders to quality knives, a state-of-the-art hob, and even egg cups!
Our favorite feature of the accommodation was undoubtedly the hot tub, located on the terrace. It comfortably fit six people and included a superb bubble system and beautiful lights. After a long day, it was the perfect spot to relax. Moreover, the view from the hot tub was breathtaking, overlooking lush greenery and the serene Kolpa River. Across the River Kolpa, you can catch a glimpse of Croatia! There’s nothing cooler than unwinding in a hot tub while sipping wine and gazing at another country.
Big Berry Site Review
The site itself is incredibly charming. The individual accommodations provide privacy, yet there are also plenty of social activities to engage in around the camp.
Activities at the camp include volleyball, slack-lining, berry picking, swimming in the Kolpa, participating in Sunday BBQ events, canoeing, boxercise, and more. If you wish to socialize, you can hang out with other guests or interns, or enjoy time at one of the numerous cozy chill-out areas.
Travelling Slovenia
There are numerous luxury activities ideal for experiencing Slovenia while using Big Berry as your base. Our favorites included:
Rafting on the Kolpa River:
Rafting is one of our absolute favorite activities, and navigating the clear waters of the Kolpa River is exhilarating. The surrounding landscape of towering mountains, dense forests, and serene blue skies felt like something out of a fantasy novel.
Touring the Vizir Craft Brewery:
Sampling beers at the Vizir craft brewery—a place known for its delightful brews—was a remarkable experience. We indulged in a fascinating afternoon learning about beer production while tasting some of the best European beers we’ve encountered.
Trying Chocolates and Liqueurs at Berryschka:
A visit to the distillery and chocolatier, Berryshka, was a treat. Their exquisite fruit liqueurs and delicious chocolates captivated us, and we particularly enjoyed the blueberry liqueur served in chocolate shot glasses.
Tasting Oils at Pecaric:
A visit to Pecaric to learn about various oils and taste them was another highlight of our trip.
Visiting the Mouth of the Kolpa:
Observing where the Kolpa River flows from was refreshing, with its crystal-clear turquoise waters inspiring awe.
Standing on Mirna Gora:
Mirna Gora, reaching a towering height of 1,042m, offers breathtaking views as the third highest peak in Bela Krajina.
Learning About Beekeeping:
Learning about honey production and even trying fresh honey or honey schnapps added to the experience.
Wine Tastings:
Bela Kranjina is known for its wine, and several traditional Slovenian wineries are worth visiting during your stay at Big Berry.
Lake Bled and Ljubljana
A visit to Lake Bled and Ljubljana can also be made from Big Berry. This was undoubtedly one of our favorite days in Slovenia.
The Food
The food at Big Berry delighted our taste buds, largely because it’s locally sourced. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a delightful package that included Pogaca (traditional Slovenian welcome bread), apple juice, honey, liqueurs, and ghee.
Each morning, we were treated to a packed breakfast on our porch, which varied daily but always included pogaca, fresh fruit, smoothies, juice, coffee, eggs, milk, cereals, cheeses, and ghee. (Meat options were also available.) The experience of enjoying breakfast while overlooking the Kolpa River was simply wonderful.
Pogaca’s Role
Pogaca, a traditional Slovenian bread typically served with wine, was a favorite during our stay. It is slightly salty and has grooves, making it easy to share among friends by tearing apart instead of cutting.
The People
The warmth and friendliness of the staff and interns at iBestTravel significantly enhanced our experience. Their extensive knowledge and passion for Slovenia made us feel right at home.
Conclusion
Overall, our stay at Big Berry was nothing short of extraordinary. We engaged in a multitude of activities, leaving us feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Big Berry is a unique and luxurious destination that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
