Summary
The next day, which marked our final day in Spain, we ventured into the vibrant streets of Bilbao, searching for more local experiences. Our first stop was the local market, a significant part of Bilbao. This market, which has recently undergone renovations, now features a blend of fresh food offerings and tapas bars.
As we continued to explore Bilbao, we occasionally indulged in sweet treats to energize ourselves before heading into the renowned Guggenheim Museum.
Upon arrival at the Guggenheim, I felt a sense of excitement as I anticipated revisiting certain exhibits. My previous experience had provided valuable insights, allowing me to focus on pieces I felt were essential while skipping others.
Some exhibits, like those from Bill Viola, intrigued me deeply as I’d encountered them throughout the city. The combination of art and experience in the museum fulfilled my expectations.
After a wonderful time at the museum, we decided to visit Nerua, a Michelin-star restaurant located adjacent to the Guggenheim. Dining here had been on our wishlist for quite some time.
The restaurant’s modern design actually complemented the artistic ambiance of the Guggenheim itself, enhancing our dining experience. We were served an array of exquisite tasting dishes, starting with flavorful tomatoes adorned with aromatic herbs, followed by a delightful broth with beans that surprised me with its depth of flavor.
The fried hake was, without a doubt, my favorite dish of the day, perfectly flaky with a crispy exterior. Each course surpassed the last, culminating with a unique dessert of apple and cinnamon flan paired with sheep’s milk curd ice cream—an incredible combination!
Following a delightful meal complemented with coffees and wines, we embarked on our final stroll through Bilbao, taking in the stunning views of the Guggenheim before heading to the airport to leave Spain behind.
Campo Viejo certainly influenced our experience this summer, delivering a vibrant journey filled with color and wine.
