Burning Man 2025 Embraces the Multiverse: Implications for Fans

Experience the Virtual Burning Man Universe 2020

Earlier this year, we were informed that was transitioning to the multiverse instead of due to health and safety concerns amid the . Initially, information was scarce; however, as ‘Burn Week’ approaches, organizers have unveiled exciting details about the virtual version of the festival.

What to Expect

The online festival will occur from August 30 to September 6 and is titled “Burning Man Universe: A global quantum kaleidoscope of possibility.” This invitation to creativity and connection can be accessed from your smartphone, laptop, or virtual reality headset instead of the vast desert landscape of . Moreover, attendees are encouraged to create their Burning Man environments in any safe and socially distanced space.

Eight Unique Universes

The eight universes will serve as vibrant online events that feature exhibitions, themed camp occurrences, Black Rock City DJ performances, and “random but oddly synchronous encounters with fascinating individuals.” Each universe presents an opportunity to engage with others in meaningful ways.

Exploring the Multiverse

One standout universe, the Multiverse, is described as a “full-scale, virtual interactive Black Rock City, including the deep playa,” where every street and theme camp will be recreated. Each camp can broadcast content live, allowing attendees to register their camps online for streaming events such as parties, discussions, and exhibitions.

Supporting the Community

The festival website indicates that a ticketing system will be in place for online Burners. This system not only aims to cover costs but also to support nonprofits such as Burners Without Borders and Fly Ranch. As stated on the website, “It won’t be like the BRC we’ve built over the years; we recognize that there’s no substitute for an in-person experience. It will be a new kind of Burn.” The aim is to co-create an online BRC with 100,000 participants, promoting sustainability, connection, and mutual care in these challenging times.
