Cadillac’s New Opulent Velocity Concept Car
Cadillac’s V performance sub-brand has been around for 20 years, and to celebrate, it’s rolling out a new concept car later this year dubbed “Opulent Velocity.” Despite the unusual name, the mysterious concept car is described as “zero emissions.” However, it’s not yet specified whether it will be all-electric, hydrogen-powered, or utilize another form of technology.
As Cadillac ushers its V performance brand into the future, it’s likely that the Opulent Velocity will be an electric vehicle (EV). The automaker describes this innovative car as “designed to celebrate the past, present, and future of Cadillac and its performance brand, V-Series.”
From what can be perceived in the glimpses available in the video clip, the Opulent Velocity is expected to have Cadillac’s signature vertical-strip headlights and taillights, alongside some surprisingly rounded forms on its body. Interestingly, the car produces both electric and what seems to be V-8-like noises when driven hard. This raises questions about the zero-emissions claim, especially given the V-8 ripple heard in the video. It could potentially involve a new-style EV noise similar to Dodge’s Fratzonic exhaust, or perhaps Cadillac has developed an onboard emissions-capture system containing an impressive V-8.
Will the Opulent Velocity feature an engine? Will it include any unexpected surprises? We will have to wait until later this year for further details, as Cadillac plans to reveal more about this exciting new concept.
