Explore the Redwood SkyWalk in Eureka, California
Many travelers head to California’s ancient redwood forests to see the giant trees tower over them. However, there’s now an exciting opportunity to explore a bit closer to their lofty canopies on a new ‘sky walk’.
The Redwood SkyWalk at Sequoia Park Zoo will host its grand opening the weekend of June 4 to 6, allowing visitors to explore the forest from 100-feet above the ground.
Experience the SkyWalk
Located in Eureka, California, the sky walk features a series of connected elevated bridges that take visitors to raised platforms, where they can admire this old-growth redwood grove from an entirely new perspective. At nearly one-quarter mile long, it is set to be the longest sky walk in the Western US. According to the zoo, the entire experience is ADA-accessible, with the exception of an optional adventure portion.
About Sequoia Park
The Redwood SkyWalk is situated within Sequoia Park, a beautiful 67-acre grove located in the city of Eureka. Eureka is part of Humboldt County, which is also home to Redwood National Park, preserving more than 45 percent of California’s remaining protected old-growth redwoods.
Eco-Friendly Design
According to the zoo, the platforms are suspended from the trees, ensuring minimal impact on the forest floor below. They are strategically designed to allow the trees to continue to grow naturally. While visitors can enjoy breathtaking views much closer to the trees, it is advised to refrain from touching their delicate bark.
Grand Opening Details
The grand opening will follow current COVID-19 guidelines. However, California is expected to lift many restrictions on capacity and social distancing by June 15.
