Trinidad and Tobago
February 15–22, 2023
In the birthplace of the celebration as we know it today, Trinidad Carnival — known locally as the Greatest Show on Earth — is the biggest event of the year. It was the only major Caribbean Carnival to occur in 2020 before the world shut down. Therefore, it’s crucial to prepare your stamina for nonstop parties like the popular MC Boat Experience and Soca Brainwash. Consequently, reserving a spot early with popular Mas bands (parade groups) like Tribe ensures you have the best costume of the season to fully embrace the Trinidadian spirit.
Where to stay: Port of Spain is the center of the action; the Hyatt Regency Trinidad downtown is conveniently located close to both the airport and the hottest fêtes.
Jamaica
April 12-18, 2023
Jamaica has solidified its reputation as one of the premier travel destinations in the Caribbean. However, it is newer to the annual Carnival calendar, recently attracting soca artists alongside its iconic reggae and dancehall scene. Thus, it offers a fantastic opportunity to experience a blend of events that dedicated attendees cherish, while often at a more affordable price point. Therefore, working with a concierge can help you secure your costume from local Mas band Xodus and secure tickets to popular parties like SunKissed and Duck Work.
Where to stay: The centrally located (and affordable) Courtyard Kingston is an excellent base for party-hopping and exploring local sites like the Bob Marley Museum.
St. Lucia
July 12–19, 2023
Best known as a destination for romance and luxury, St. Lucia transforms into a euphoric setting when the summer heat rises and Carnival takes over. Visitors flock to the island to enjoy local music (Dennery Segment) and join Mas bands like Legends. This environment is perfect for those looking to “get on bad” amidst stunning views of the mountains and sea.
Where to stay: Most events take place in the Rodney Bay–Gros Islet areas, and the Harbor Club, Curio Collection is ideally located in the heart of it all.
Grenada
August 10–15, 2023
One of the most distinctive events in the Caribbean, Grenada’s Carnival — called Spicemas — is a celebration of culture, local food, and the colorful pageantry of Mas bands like Oro. To experience the true essence of Spicemas, attend the island’s unique Jab Jab J’Ouvert, which signifies the unofficial start of the festivities. Here, revelers donned in devil horns, covered in black oil, and blowing conch shells dance until dawn, humorously mocking the island’s former colonizers. This vibrant atmosphere makes it one of the most captivating celebrations in the region.
Where to stay: The luxurious Silversands Grenada on Grand Anse Beach is seamlessly close to the excitement and offers a special Spicemas package.
