Discover the Unique Floating Restaurant, Lime Out

If irreverent, obscure eats in paradise are your thing, it’s time to visit the U.S. Virgin Island of St. John. Soon enough, you could be floating in the Caribbean Sea, one hand holding a tortilla overflowing with saucy, stewed curry chicken and potatoes, while the other clutches a frothy spiked seltzer from local St. John Brewers. This floating restaurant, Lime Out, celebrated three years of offering delightful meals and drinks amidst stunning ocean views.

The History of Lime Out

Anchored in Coral Harbor on the east side of the island, this bright green taco shack was created by childhood friends Richard Baranowski, Dane Tarr, and Dylan Buchalter. Baranowski, who owns the local restaurant Lime Inn, collaborated with longtime chef Amaro Rivera to create a lunch menu that melds Caribbean flavors with the ultimate handheld food: the taco.

The menu at Lime Out features tacos ranging from $8 to $12. It includes a vegan option with paprika-smoked black beans, quinoa, pickled onions, guacamole, jalapeños, sliced radishes, and organic microgreens. Additionally, fresh fish specialties like the popular Mahi ceviche taco are available, which includes pink grapefruit and orange segments, red onion, cilantro, jalapeño peppers, chili-garlic-passion-fruit dressing, radishes, and chipotle coleslaw.

After placing your order, your meal will be delivered directly to your floating booth, staying dry amidst the casual splashes. As you enjoy your meal, allow the ocean to be your napkin, and remember to soak in the sun before your return journey.

A Unique Dining Experience

Accessible only by boat, visitors can reach Lime Out via speedboat, kayak, or paddleboard. Swimming to the bar and restaurant is prohibited for safety reasons. The establishment is situated in a no-wake zone, meaning you’ll need to wade a few feet from your vessel to reach your space at the swim-up bar. This setting creates a vibrant atmosphere perfect for enjoying a meal with friends or family.

With options like infused tamarind shots to kick off your afternoon, and icy craft cocktails such as The Danger, made with Thai chili-infused tequila, fresh watermelon juice, fresh lime juice, and pineapple simple syrup, Lime Out is designed for a delightful lunch party experience.

Lime Out is open daily from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
