Eid ul-Adha Festivities in London

Eid ul-Adha, known as the festival of sacrifice, is Islam’s second and biggest annual Eid. It usually falls on the tenth day of Dhu’l Hijjah, the final month in the Islamic lunar calendar, and is commemorated the day after the Hajj pilgrimage has been completed. This auspicious occasion is one of the holiest days in Islam, with millions of Muslims worldwide celebrating it joyfully.

Similar to Eid ul-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, Muslims will congregate in the morning for Eid prayers at the mosque. To pay homage to the sacrifice that Prophet Ibrahim made to Allah, a Qurbani, which involves the sacrificing of an animal (mainly sheep), is performed. The meat is generously divided among family, friends, and those in need, allowing everyone to partake in the spirit of the occasion. Hence, Eid ul-Adha typically spans three days filled with festivities and delicious feasting.

In 2023, based on moon sightings, celebrations will begin around Wednesday, June 28. Below are some exciting ways to join the Eid ul-Adha festivities around London.
