Migrants Enter Croatia Amid Border Policy Changes
Over 11,000 migrants have entered Croatia from Serbia in the past two days. This influx comes as Hungary has implemented a fence along its border with Serbia to prevent further migration.
In response to the increased migration, Croatia has closed seven of its eight road crossings with Serbia. The only crossing still operational is Bajakovo, located on the main route between Belgrade and Zagreb. Croatia is working to transport refugees who have entered the country to reception centres in Zagreb; however, many are eager to travel onwards to northern Europe via Slovenia.
Moreover, Slovenia recently halted a train carrying approximately 150 migrants at its border with Croatia in Dobova. Initially, Slovenia threatened to return them to Croatia but later allowed the train to continue to Postojna, where there is a designated refugee reception centre.
