Travel Guidelines and Attractions in Cyprus
Cyprus is preparing to ease COVID-19 restrictions ahead of Easter and summer travel, removing the outdoor face mask mandate and the need to show a vaccination or recovery certificate to enter places like museums and shops. Entry rules will also be relaxed for unvaccinated visitors.
Why Visit Cyprus?
White sandy beaches, nature trails, vineyards, a vibrant nightlife, and world-class archaeological sites make Cyprus—the mythological birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite—a top Mediterranean destination. It’s particularly enticing during spring and summer when temperatures rise and the water is ideal for snorkeling and bathing.
Current COVID-19 Policies
Currently, people are required to wear masks in any outdoor public setting, even on the beach unless they’re staying put on their towel or sun lounger. Starting April 11, this outdoor mask requirement will no longer be in effect, according to Health Minister Michalis Hadjipantela.
Additionally, beginning April 18, visitors will not need to show vaccination or recovery certificates to enter shops, art galleries, museums, and festivals. Cinemas and theaters will also return to full capacity.
The entry rules will be further relaxed on April 18, eliminating the requirement for unvaccinated passengers to take a test upon arrival.
Understanding Entry Requirements
Entry rules for Cyprus vary based on your country of origin. Cyprus categorizes countries into green (low-risk) and red (high-risk) lists. For example, the United Kingdom is on the red list, requiring arriving passengers to show a vaccination or recovery certificate.
- Individuals over 12 who are unvaccinated must take a PCR test 72 hours prior to departure or an antigen test 24 hours before.
- Upon arrival, unvaccinated individuals aged 12 and older must take another test and isolate for roughly three hours while awaiting results—however, this rule will be lifted on April 18.
Vaccination Requirements
To be considered fully vaccinated, individuals aged 18 and older must have received a booster shot if more than 270 days have passed since their last dose of the primary vaccination course. Those aged 12 to 17 are regarded as fully vaccinated if they’ve had two shots (or one in the case of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine).
Face Mask Guidelines in Cyprus
Face masks are currently required in both indoor and outdoor settings, including beaches. Starting on April 11, the outdoor mask mandate will end, but masks will still be essential on public transport and in indoor venues such as restaurants, supermarkets, and museums.
Vaccine Passports for Public Venues
To enter bars, hotels, and restaurants, individuals will need to show a vaccine certificate, although this will no longer be a requirement in shops, museums, and art galleries after Easter. Vaccine status can be presented through official documentation, including the Cyprus Flight Pass form.
Unvaccinated individuals can present a lab-produced PCR or antigen test no more than 72 hours or 48 hours old, respectively. These rules apply to anyone over the age of 12.
